How to use Fillable PDF Forms

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Do not attempt to complete fillable forms within your internet browser.
  • Mac users must install Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Mac Preview will not work with fillable PDF forms.

Is the form fillable?

Not all forms are fillable.  Interactive fillable forms in Acrobat Reader DC highlight where you should type.

An interactive form (fillable PDF) contains fields that you can select or fill in.

A – Purple message bar indicates presence of fillable fields.

B – When clicked, shows where fillable fields exist.

  • Click to select options, such as checkboxes.
  • Click inside a text field to type.
  • Press Tab (on your keyboard) to move forward or Shift+Tab to move backward.

Once completed, Save the filled form to your local drive on your own computer and note the location of the saved file. (ex. My Documents)

Convert/Edit PDF in MS Word

Did you know that Word 2013 or 2016 can convert and Edit PDF? Yes, this is possible by saving a document as PDF after working on it in Word 2013. You don’t need another software and any add-ins installed to do this. For Word 2016/2011 for Mac see Related Links section.

Note: Converting and saving a document can take a while to process, this is depending on graphics and content you’re working on.

Show me how to save a document as a PDF file

1. In word, on an open document, click file.

2. Click Save As.

3. Select a location where you want to save the file. In this example, save it locally, on the Computer>Desktop.

4. Edit File name if necessary, then Select PDF (*.pdf) under Save as type. Click Save when done.

Important: Although you can copy any text content from PDF you cannot copy pictures directly from PDF to Word.

Solution: Use Snipping Tool or Print Screen (Alt + PrtSc) then copy it on a picture editor app like Paint. When you’re done editing, copy and paste it back to your Word Document.

Use PDF Format when you want to a file that:

  • Looks the same on most computers
  • Has smaller size
  • Complies with an industry format
